Don't get conned--there is no just cause for a pardon of D. Chauvin
opinion piece from the MN Star Tribune.
When I hear the giddy attacks on DEI, BLM, ANTIFA, ‘the WOKE virus,’ LGBTQIA—launched by contrivedly concerned white folks bent on ‘protecting’ their children from the horrors of what they, and we, have done as individuals and as a society since the inception of this society: I see it as a grim example of what Baldwin labeled the artificial but very dangerous ‘innocence’ of whiteness.
The ‘local concerned parents’ groups’ are using demagogic tactics and the cloak and axe of ‘concern’ and ‘our’ children (little white fuckers) to attack things they don’t want to understand, coopting & reversing the language of justice to make themselves and their gits the victims of truth, fact, and history. When these folks clog the airwaves, decrying ‘DEI’ and ‘BLM’ and ‘ANTIFA’ and the dreaded ‘CRT’ or ‘WOKE,’ I know they are talking out their asses—and what they are giddily doing is dropping the hard-R by tossing an idiot acronym in its place.
Yes, we are trapped in the upside down, yet instead of weird monsters we have surreality t.v. players and avowed racists/sexists/idiots blithely kneecapping the country—and for what? Temporary greedy gains, and the spiteful erasure of any measure of equality or racial/gender justice. It’s sickening. It’s stupid. It’s malignant.
Here is something that I’ve been perseverating on, and writing about, and furiously frustrated about: the current president’s weaponizing white resentment and simultaneously appeasing/fomenting that same calorically rich but intellectually vapid resentment.

These days feel dire, because they are. As I chided an elder, when they complained yet again about the president’s shiftiness, ‘If the rest of the elected officials did their jobs, this wouldn’t be an issue. Don’t get captured. Fight the real enemy.’
